I'm going to start keeping a note of my dieting progress here. As I doubt many of you are interested in the figures so I'll be restricting the entries to a friends group. If you want to see them, comment here and I'll add you to the group. The idea is that I'll get all the benefits of going to weightwatchers (i.e. the scrutiny and record and stuff) but without paying!

Yeah, go on then, I'll see if I can encourage you! :)

Thanks :) Added. As you can see, not exactly a flying start yesterday - logic problems always make me hungry :(

Me too please: it will remind me how distended I am. I had been watching my weight but it wasn't until my dad dicked with the metric/imperial setting on my scales that I actully *understood* how heavy I was.

Added. We'll have to both start having the healthy option in the pub together :)

Dieting - Don't be scared!

Dear Tinyjo

I am sure that you'll manage well with this, you also seem to be quite motivated, which is a +.
This is really good. What kind of diet are you doing? Cutting on certain types of food or is it like "I don't want to eat anymore?"

I'm doing Weight Watchers - I've got all the info from last year when I used to go along to meetings for a bit so I'll use that. It's a bit like a simplified version of calorie counting - each food has a points value based on the no of calories and the amount of saturated fat and you're allowed a certain number of points per day depending on your current weight (about 22 for me I think). Want to follow my progress?

Dear Tinyjo

The programme seems quite all right, even though I would have my doubts as the number of points may not take into account the content of the food. For example, say you get to have a trifle (with strawberries). The number of points will be the same as when it is a "diet" trifle, with half the calories. Anyway, I will be pleased to follow your progress so a weekly or so update may be good. Who knows, I may end up doing it if it works!

You also won't be putting money into the pockets of Heinz, who own Weightwatchers, sinisterly enough.

It's refined carbohydrates one really needs to cut down on, incidentally - sugar, fructose, dextrose, that kind of stuff. Calories & fats are less important as I understand it (and in my experience - when I had to give up sugar my weight dropped by a stone and a half).

When I was in China I mainly lived on vegetable stir-frys and tofu. I was a lot thinner and healthier when I came back than when I went. I keep meaning to try it again.
