Well, whether you think the government should scrap the planned vehicle tracking and road pricing policy or not scrap it, you can now sign your name on the Downing Street website. I think it would be interesting to see how many people do sign the latter, if just to remind the media that the body of public opinion represented by the signers of the anti petition isn't the only one out there.

Considering the 'last five hundred signed' includes such names as 'yes', I think they're going to come to the not all too surprising conclusion that the 'e-mail campaign' to promote this petition and the mentions on the news led to a lot of phoney sign ups.

Where can I find out about what the actual bill says? Tracking and road pricing? I'm clearly in favour of the latter, but what do they mean by tracking. It should be possible have some sort of chip in cars that tells a central computer that you drove from x to y at z time of day on w roads and charges you accordingly without actually storing the journeys made.

From what I can tell, no one has actually made a serious effort at proposing this as something the government will do. Which is why it made the news, because the ministry in charge complained about No.10's handling of the petition. So it's basically another round of Daily Mail-like scaremongering.
