At my parents home in the wilds of Norfolk where I grew up, there are no street lights. Hell, there's only about 7 roads in the village! I used to carry a small torch in my school bag as standard in the winter for when I went to after school orchestra practice and stuff and got home after dark. If it was particularly bright, that was because it was very clear and there would probably be a full moon as well. If you looked up you could see thousands of stars clustered together gleaming. And the other things clear nights in winter meant were extra cold, frosty weather. So, last night I was cycling home from Avalon (a great film of which more later). I got round to the back gate and noticed, while looking for my keys that it was pretty light. But now that I was out of the wind, it didn't feel frosty cold. I felt confused and looked up at the sky to see how many stars I could see. The answer being none at all because there was thick low cloud, which was why it wasn't too cold out of the wind. The whole sky was orange with reflected street lighting - it made me think of the apocalypse (for some reason). I think, on the whole, I prefer to be colder but see the stars.
