tinyjo: (who's a rock star?)
I figured it was time to turn this around a bit and, inspired partly by Alex's plan of lending things to people, I have decided to offer up recommendations. Comment here and tell me (a) what you'd like me to recommend - I do fiction (probably SF) or music, (b) what is your current fave genre in said field, (c) a couple of your all time fave books/albums (with links if they're obscure and/or you can be bothered). I will respond with a recommendation. Further, I will endevor to lend it to you via some means, real or electronic. And, if you want, post this in your journal.

Go on, then. Fiction from the sf corner of the meme pool - current raves Forty Signs of Rain by Kim Stanley Robinson or Stories of Your Life And Others by Ted Chiang - and music from the singer-songwriter and/or indie-schmindie one - current listening Ryan Adams, or Cat Power, or Calexico.

Hmmm. SF for you is really hard as much of my recent reading has been recommendations from you :) I'll have to think about that. Perhaps Kurt Voneguts short stories. They weren't all SF but a lot of them were weird/odd and they're very well written. I've got Bagabo Snuff Box which I can lend to you.

For music, I'm leaning towards suggesting Nanci Griffifths. She's classified as country music but I think Flyer in particular will very much appeal to the singer songwriter side of your tastes - it's a very pretty album indeed.

Are you likely to be in Oxford in the near future, or shall I send you a parcel?

Sounds good to me. I've been meaning to read more Vonnegut.

Country isn't necessarily a bad thing, as [livejournal.com profile] immortalradical has been educating me...

Parcel would probably be the most sensible course - either that, or give them to someone who's going to Eastercon to pass on to me there.
