Which well known novel was this new tech/service inspired by? Honest, it's easy. I'm definitely going to have to check it out when I've got broadband.

It's not the only one out there. is the one I've heard about. Partially due to the tax revolt they had. It's got an embedded journalist, which is pretty neat when the terrorists start taking hostages.

I can see I'm going to have to make my post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/soulsong/205451.html) on the subject public.

There is definitely not the first, but There is the only virtual world I've found that's slick enough to actually be worth hanging around in.

Also, I'm trying to ignore your dancing badger icon badger badger badger badger badger badger mushroom mushroom...argh! get out, get out of my head!!!

Thanks for that. Interesting reading and I'd love to badger you with questions about it, bit it's all a rather theoretical interest for me until they release an OS X client or I get a new monitor for my old PC.

In very long comment threads, it gets very disturbing I'm told. (Mwahaha)

ps I played SecondLife for a couple of hours. It was *painful*. Slow, ugly, awful interface, no helpful people to show me around... in fact I only saw one person the whole time I was there. Contrast to There where I end up in fascinating conversations everywhere I go even when I'm trying desperately to do work and ignore the place.

I could say "your mileage may vary" but really, in this case, no, it won't :p
