Well, Alex and I finally managed to make it to see
BodyWorlds on Sunday. And pretty damn impressive it was. We had to spend about 20 minutes slowly snaking through the queue to get in, but it was worth it. As that implies, it was very busy but most of the exhibits could be viewed from all sides, so if you took it slowly you could manage to see everything pretty well. There were some really beautiful exhibits as well - my favourite was the forearm and hand which had had everything except the blood vessels removed leaving an incredibly fine tracery of veins showing the shape of the hand. Really pretty. The whole thing wasn't as visceral as I'd expected - the plastination process seems to leave the cadavers looking a little like plastic muscles of people so it doesn't feel real enough to feel uncomfortable. The eyes definitely made the skulls very expressive though. Catch it while you can.
Afterwards, we went to eat in a pub with Alex's Dad, who'd joined us for the exhibition. I hadn't seen him for a while and we found a really nice pub with excellent pizzas and calzones. I feel a little guilty that I don't see Alex's parents very often but he never seems keen for me to go with him so I refrain. Still, I took the opportunity to invite Richard and Iz to come for dinner at my place, perhaps in the school holidays, so we'll see what happens.
