Gliding along
January 8th, 2003 05:24 pmI actually did go skating today - not bad eh? Apart from managing to get confused and walk in a circle on the way there, it was pretty good. So, pros and cons of skating as exercise.
Pros:
Not to difficult to get back the ability - I was already steadier on my feet after today’s session.
Absorbing - I didn't feel the need for distraction particularly although that might change as I get better at it.
Close - took me 7-10 mins to walk it from the office. It's in that grey area as to whether it's worth cycling or not, but anyway, I should be able to get a reasonable session in each time.
Comfortable - got me breathless and with my heart rate up without me feeling too uncomfortable or anything like that.
Cons:
Makes feet hurt - I'd forgotten how it makes your feet ache! I could only manage about 25 minutes this time. Still, should get better with practice.
Expensive - £4.50 for a session. If I get a pass it would be cheaper. I'd need to attend 8 sessions a month to make it worth while and if I attend 4 sessions a week it'd work out at just over £2 per session which is much more reasonable. Skate hire is then £1 on top of that, but if I'm still going regularly by the end of the month then I could ask for them for my birthday.
Definitely got potential...
