I'm spending the day at our disaster recovery facility today and it's really weird. It's a rabbit warren filled with much nicer PCs than mine! Seriously - there are loads of workstations with double flatscreens that are not being used at all. I'm currently the only person here (there was a guy with a laptop earlier but he's gone again). You'd think that it would make more sense to give the nice expensive moniters to the people in the main offices who haven't got them and put the skanky old ones in the facility which chances are will never be used. But then, what do I know :)

After exciting travails (sp?) including the network connection on the PC I was originally working on disappearing and my discovery that the PC I moved to didn't have a CD drive I have finally installed both applications on one PC! And they both connect properly to the servers and work properly and stuff! Now all I have to do is get the batch files which download the reports of our server to work and I'm done and dusted...

It occurs to me that the other thing that I really don't like in here, apart from the waste of nice PCs is the waste of electricity. There are 126 PCs in this room, probably about 350 on this floor and they're all on. For a facility that it's unlikely that we'll ever have to use that seems a bit wasteful on the old electricity front, and very environmentally unfriendly to boot. Still, soon be off :)

Emptied of expectation. Relax.
