Smoking has become such a ghetto. Its the huge taboo - these days at work its OK to drink or even be gay but admit you're a smoker and you'll get funny looks from everyone. Its really strange to walk around the city and see a clump of people outside every building having a quick fag even in weather like this (i.e. very cold). I can see why we forbid smoking in the office itself but couldn't we at least provide a break room for these poor people? It just seems a trifle unfair - I mean its not like it's illegal or anything.

Had an actually productive morning this morning. Finally had a brainwave for a change that one of my co-workers has been bugging me for for ages and got it sorted out in time to release it this afternoon which was cool. Probably am going to have a nice quiet afternoon and maybe even write my apathy essay(!) while I watch for any bugs from the release. Then am off out to watch Blade Runner tonight with Alex which should be cool - somehow I've never managed to see it all the way through in one sitting although I have seen all of it (if you see what I mean).

smoking inside is nasty not fun

At Oxfam, there was a smoker's room (we are so very tolerant!) BUT the smokers didn't like to use it because it was small and stuffy and stank of smoke (unsurprisingly) so they would still go and cower in the doorway. Perhaps also it's a throwback to school smoking, behind bike-sheds, and maybe even adds to the buzz -- ah, the shadowy motivations of smokers. Enjoy Bladerunner -- it's much better on the big screen.

I just can't help feeling sorry for them when the weathers so fucking freezing. I'm lucky that tea-drinking has no passive effects on others (although the number of people in my group who have followed my lead is a bit worrying)! You're right though - Blade Runner was fantastic.

Fuck smokers. Why should we allow them a room to smoke in? We don't allow a room for people to have a glass of wine in at work, we don't give them the opportunity to smoke cannabis, there are no private rooms set aside for shooting up.

Personally, it pisses me off that smokers seem to get away with having more breaks from work than normal people. They get to pop out for fag breaks every so often and no-one gives a damn. If I decided I wanted to stand outside for five minutes every hour or so, I'd probably get a warning from my boss.

Saw this, thought of your post: Man fired for smoking.

Yeah - I saw that yesterday too. Its insane isn't it. Its bad enough when companies try to test you for taking illegal drugs in your own time, let alone legal ones.
