More to do today. Did a bit of form design in VB.NET which seems fairly easy. I have a feeling that the hard bit will be to link it to the back end though - that's not ready yet so I can't fiddle with it. Then a rather frustrating time this afternoon fiddling with ASP.NET trying to create my worklog. Unfortunately, it's different enough from ASP that I don't really get it at all - it's very odd. What I really need is a book but I can't seem to see one here. I wonder if there's an O'Reilly for it yet (a quick google tells me that yes there is). I'm still loving just being here though. When I woke up this morning it felt like a weekend - Alex had stayed over, I wasn't in a rush to get up, I had time to shower, do my hair (rather than doing that the night before I hasten to add) and make sandwiches and I wasn't tired. It was no effort :) And I got to go out to lunch and wander round the Covered Market with Jez and Dez :)

ASP .Net isn't ASP at all

The quick answer is that ASP .Net indeed has nothing whatever to do with ASP. The only reason for the similarity in names is marketing—Microsoft want you to assume that since you know ASP it will be easier to use ASP .Net than, say, PHP.

ASP .Net is better than ASP for any nontrivial project—it allows for the app to be decomposed in to resable objects (called web controls) each responsible for part of the page
in the same way windows controls are responsible for part of a window in an old-style windows application.

In similar vein, ADO .Net is entirely unlike ADO. I am told that it is better once you get used to it. I have not tried it yet though.
