Grr. Due to the fact that I have been insanely busy this week and that the bus home has been rather shit (traffic - boo) I have been eating an absolutely appalling diet. Hence, I'm in danger of getting pudgier instead of slimmer :( And I haven't got any revision done at all :(

Yes, once again it is revision time. So be warned readers of this journal - soon it will once again be filled with frustrated complaints (whinges if you will) about how incredibly boring sitting around in the evening reading about Microsoft products is. There's no escaping it I'm afraid. I've got to have an outlet somewhere. Still, you can console yourselves with the thought that it hopefully won't last long past the beginning of Feb, after which time I will be a qualified MCSE - aren't I the lucky one :)

The point being, that I have started my revision of course which is good. Still, it does make me feel a bit like a boring hermit again - quite a few of my mates went out to a gig last night and it was a band I was interested in checking out. I did need to get on with the revision and it wouldn't have been a good idea for me on a weeknight really but still. The sensible decision but not my fave.

Good thing: Have finally (fingers crossed and touch wood) shaken off the squits.
Bad thing: Whole week of being ill/insurance woman/etc has meant that I haven't got any revision done at all

While obviously that's not a huge problem because I haven't booked my exams yet, it's not good because I really need to get on with it and finish the MCSE.

Good thing: Sky have sent me my viewing card for my forthcoming satellite dish
Bad thing: They haven't sent me my contract yet.

It's always possible that the phone conversation etc was sufficient but I'm sure I remember the guy saying that I'd have to send a photocopy of my tenancy agreement with the contract so that they could be sure that I wasn't the previous tenant trying to sneak in under a new name. Hmmm.

Update They have now sent me my contract. Phew. Sorted.

Now that I've finally had my credit card bill and got back to my computer again I have been able to do something that I've been meaning to do for a while - I've paid for this account :) I actually probably won't use most of the extra features for paid users but I just think that I use it so much and get so much pleasure out of it, especially when I'm bored at work that I want to support it.

I have decided to get on with all the things I have been putting off "til next year" - I've done LJ so this is what I have got left

Finish MCSE. I'm nearly there with this - I only need to do 2 more exams now. I'm hoping to have this done by the end of the month.

Get cats. As soon as I've finished this entry I'm ringing up the Cats Protection League to start the adoption process :)

Get NTL. As soon as I've done the above I'll be surfing over to the NTL website to decide what exactly I want.

Lose weight. I know I can do this - I just have to train myself to maintain my willpower through stressful situations cos that's when I put it all back on. Actually, also when drunk (witness my crisp demolition at [livejournal.com profile] cleanskies Saturday night) So, from now on, I'm on a diet. Stop me from eating crisps in the pub, OK.

My other good thing that I'm doing today is of course my fast. Not going too badly so far although I am starting to get a bit peckish. Alex has promised to try to pick up some kind of frozen pizza to take to the party to break my fast with as I doubt even Cowley Road will have takeouts still open at midnight on NYE.

And finally, the rest of Christmas - I did mean to make entries on my palm but utterly forgot so you'll have to have it in one big chunk )

Well, I am happy to report that I have passed my Network Infrastructure exam! Got 800 this time which was more than enough (need 620 out of 1000 to pass). Go on - ask me a question about DNS and watch me ignore it :)

So - to summarize my weekend for you...
Fri night: Alex's work party - cold but nice.
Sat night: Alistairs dinner - lovely food, drink, company. Me appointed Mikes surrogate girlfriend.
Sun: nothing :)

Nervous minou. Exam in 2 hours. :( Have distracted myself this morning by working on my own quotescrape but it's not ready yet. Thanks [livejournal.com profile] zoo_music_girl :)

Wish me luck...

Hmmm. On the plus side, thanks to the magical internat I have discovered that the shop I intended to go late night shopping to doesn't do late night shopping so now I won't go. On the minus side, they don't do late night shopping, the bastards. Or at least, not late night enough for me. Ahh well. I guess I'll have to heave myself over briefly at the weekend or try and make it to the London branch tomorrow. With a bit of luck, I can finish off all the last vestiges of Xmas shopping tomorrow after my exam if I get through it quickly enough which would be good as with the weekend I've got lined up I doubt I'll have the energy :)

I got another 75% park in the practice exam today which is reassuring but Routing and Remote Access are still my weakest areas. I think a bit of a quiet night of revision is in order. Sigh. I really really hope I get it this time.

Argggg. MCSE is soooo boring. I hate IPsec, I hate RRAS and I hate PKI. The whole thing is so dull that it just slides through my mind like water does through the spaghetti strands when you drain the pasta leaving only a few clinging remains of dampness. Grrr. On the plus side I did a practice test on 2000exams.com and got 100% which is pretty impressive I think you'll agree. Unfortunately it didn't have any routing questions at all and the PKI question was really easy so I'm not going to read too much into that.

I have another confession to make (ahh LJ - salve of my conscience). I suppose not much of a confession really, just a sad circumstance. I was walking to work yesterday and it was really cold and there was a lovely ginger cat sitting on the pavement in Morrell avenue. As soon as she saw me she came over to say hi and I gave her a quick stroke. She twined round my legs and was obviously all cold and wanted a hug but instead of stopping to take her home and give her something to eat I had to tear myself away and hurry off to catch my bus. She gave me big eyes and everything - I felt so mean. I guess I know how Alex feels now... It occurs to me in writing the above that I nearly always think of cats as female (like ships I suppose). Nothing to add to that - just an observation :)

Anyway, now you know the deep dark secrets of my soul - see ya later :)
