1) Go to sleep. The British, bless 'em, will generally fill up all the other seats before waking you up. You can help this by spreading yourself across the seats as much as possible and affect not to hear the first 'excuse me' - wait til they tap your arm.

2) Talk on the phone. You don't even have to be loud but look out of the window so that they can't make eye contact

3) Listen to a stereo. Preferably loud, but not essential. Most effective if you shut your eyes, giving the impression of being lost in the music.

Went for a wander at lunchtime yesterday and came across the Lloyds building, which is utterly fab! It's got pipes and glass and metal and glass walled lifts which go up and down the outside. I want to have a play in the lifts! Actually, as you walk along Philpot lane (where my office is) you can just see it protruding over Leadenhall Market and the old buildings across the road which makes a fabulous contrast especially at dusk when they light bits of the Lloyds building up. It's very cool basically.

I am once again thinking seriously about a car. It would be very cool (I know - I'm an evil polluting capitalist) and I could (I think) use it to drive to work part of the way (stopping at Hillingdon and getting the Met line the rest of the way) which would allow me to sleep in a bit more but I'm still not sure. I think I'll have to sit down and do some serious budgeting, see exactly what I can afford and stuff...

Note to Renault. Making a website to sell cars which does not include any info on the prices is not going to work. Honestly!

Had a slightly odd journey to work this morning. Had left the house a couple of minutes later than normal so was slightly worried that I'd missed my bus. It was all frosty and very silent as I hurried along. I got to the main road and there was hardly any traffic at all. There's not normally much at 6:30 but this was a noticeable drop. Then I got to the bus stop and I was the only one there. This is practically unheard of - there's 4 or 5 people who regularly catch that bus and I'm normally about 3rd there. But there continued to be no-one there and no traffic. I wondered if I'd missed the bus but I would have seen it go by the top of the road unless it had left pretty early. I was right - I hadn't. Just before it turned up another woman (not a regular) arrived but that was it. And then we actually got into London at 8am - pretty impressive going. Unfortunately, the streak was not continued on the Central line, but even that wasn't as bad as normal.
