I think most people have a level of tolerance for hot, packed, tubetrains that barely exceeds the length of their journey. When I used to do tube journeys every day on the Northern Line, I often had to deliberately concentrate on not letting the heat and inability-to-escape get to me. One time I had to ask someone to give me their seat because I knew I would faint otherwise. And I've been on plenty of journeys where I found myself desperately praying that there wouldn't be any delays between stations...
