I think when they ask me my weakness at interviews one of them is going to have to be a low tolerance to background noise. When there's just the general chat of the office going on I can put my headphones on and that’s more or less OK but I find it really hard to do anything complex without them on - my train of thought gets disrupted. I assume the reason this doesn't happen when I've got them on is because I know what to expect - I can't really work with the radio on for example but CDs work fine.

I'm OK with headphones for filtering out background noise but arguements always get me. The guy next to me has very strident and grumpy arguements over the phone which drives me nuts!
