Am wearing a pair of earrings that haven't seen the light of day for ages today after a little spot of domestic science last night - at Alex's suggestion I looked up information for cleaning silver online and boiled most of mine in water with baking soda and salt, which for most of it has come up trumps! The worst pair of earrings need a little longer, but I was most chuffed with the results overall :)

Ooh, that sounds quite good! I have recently bought a silver cleaning cloth, which works well on most things but is a bit tricky with fiddly items. Might try a bit of that boiling stuff up...

In the same vein, have you tried cleaning limescale with vinegar and lemon juice?
