tinyjo: (me - b&w)
Finally managed to get far enough with a new layout that I actually quite like! Can be seen on my journal. Works on most views in IE (only browser I have at work) although list of tags page and archive need work. Also, I have no idea whether the font embedding will work in Moz but I really wanted a scripty font. Anyone know of any surefire cross browser ways to include custom fonts?

Nice. I'll have a butchers on firefox when I get home.
Pawprint! yay!
One day I'll learn how to make pretyt layouts like this...

Well, I have a lot more skill at coding them than I do thinking them up so if you have ideas you can sketch out (and preferably any graphics required) I'm always happy to fix one up for you :)

I like the pawprints and the cat piccies. Not so keen on the font but your mileage (obviously) varies. Did the list of tags get generated automatically or did you specify them separately?

It looks like the way I'm including the font only works in IE7 so you probably aren't seeing the one I liked! The fallback font is rather big, unfortunatly.

The tags list does generate automatically - I don't think many styles include it on the recent entries page but I quite like it.

What font are you using? When I try and view in IE I get the option to say yes to download temporary fonts but all I get are Comic Sans for the titles and Tahoma/Verdana (can never remember which) for the text. Same view in Firefox, but no download box.

The title on this comment screen seems a bit big, so that the black text gets lost in Cassie/Charlie (which is it?) - I have two black cats now - black cats are great! ;-)

Turns out I forgot to allow the lj domain when I was creating the eot file for the font. Does it work now?

In IE6 yes. Still Comic Sans in Firefox...

Odd - both work for me now.

Also, they're not actually pics of my kitties - I found them online.

I've got Comic Sans instead of script as well.

As far as I know (meaning I think I read it in an O'Reilly book), the only surefire way to guarantee the font you want is to make an image file of every single letter and then code it so that your letters run together as text. Pain, no? It's like modern letterpress...

Yeah. I *think* I've now fixed it so that it should work in both IE and FF (fingers crossed!) but I'm not certain it works on macs now afer a bit more reading.

I'm almost certainly not seeing your journal as intended, since I'm using a rather ancient Mozilla on an old RH9 box. However, I get paw-prints and kitties and a sensible sans-serif font, which I'm sure I prefer to anything scripty anyway. Most importantly, nothing is broken, nothing is floating on top of anything else, there are no annoying "download this now" messages, and all the various links seem to work as they should. That means it's superior to pretty much everything else that's been designed solely using IE :-) Also, cute!

Hee :) I'm not supposed to download any other browsers at work. I think the sans-serif font is a bit large compared to the one I was using - I might fiddle around, pick a different one.

The one I get is exactly the same size as the one I get for the rest of LJ, which perhaps suggests that my browser is ignoring anything your instructions are trying to do. The overall effect is fine, though!
