It seems like given the post convention bounce effect, it's an advantage to be the party which has their convention second. So, American friends of mine (or anyone else who knows), how is it decided what order the conventions happen in? Always challenger followed by incumbant? Alternating between the parties? Always Democrat followed by Republican?

I don't know, but it's probably always the same. When Labour came to be power I thought that the order of the party conferences would change from LibDems, Labour, Tory to LibDebs, Tory, Labour, but no...

I'm generally pretty knowledgeable about how things in government work [or don't, as the case may be], but I got to thinking the other night that I don't know much about partisan politics. This question was precisely the same as one I had that night. :)

I'm going to have to look it up now, or watch for an answer here.
