When roleplaying a character that is very different to yourself I think it is a lot easier to maintain this over a few sessions rather than an extended campaign.
It raises the question whether part of the fun of roleplaying being able to play an seeminly omnipotent character that will include parts of the character of the player, with the fear of death lessened to the hassle of having to roll up another character.
