Well, yesterday I went out and bought some jogging trousers so that I don't have to wear my jeans and lo and behold, I am able to get slightly farther this morning! I also need to buy new trainers - who knows what that will do for my stamina :)
Unfortunately, I have confirmed what had long been suspected - i.e. that the route cause of not being able give up crisps is the lapse of willpower caused by drinking. Although I did have vague twinges of wanting crisps at the pub last night, I was easily able to suppress them. I don't really want to give up alcohol entirely, but I might try restricting myself to one drink when I'm out for a while and see if I can break the habit.
