Well, things with the new flat mate seem to be going well. We don't seem to disturb each other at night (or at least she doesn't disturb me), we had a nice time last night watching TV (The Simpsons, Yes Prime Minister, University Challenge, Daziel and Pascoe) and chatting. I overcame my nervousness and asked for my first rent cheque, which she seems only too happy to provide. She gets on OK with Cassie. Of course it'll be different again when Alex comes back, one of the drawbacks of the living room being that it's only got seats for 2 people in it, but I think we'll do OK.

Detox update
October 1st, 2002 02:09 pmI've not really been doing as much of this as I should. I've done fine with the caffeine and can now go a 2 or 3 days at a time without tea, tea cravings or other physical side effects. I've also done pretty well with the alcohol - I've let myself have a couple more drinks occasionally but I've broken myself of the habit of having a glass of wine with dinner most nights which is definitely progress. I think the problem is that I haven't been very focused on it.
On the other hand, maybe I'm being too hard on myself. I've made a big change to my eating/drinking habits in just a few weeks. I just have to decide what to do next. Cut down on wheat? Tricky for lunches, but otherwise a possibility as the books I've read suggest that I've got an excess of this at the moment. Cut down on dairy? Thinking about this, I'm actually partly doing this unconsciously as a lot of the milk I had was in tea. I do have cheese relatively regularly but haven't particularly recently. Does mayonnaise contain dairy? I kind of assume so but who knows? Well, anyone who reads the jar I suppose so I'll do that tonight and see.
I have a sudden urge to make sheppards pie - which, being full of lentils and potato is probably excellent for me.
