Contemplative
March 19th, 2002 12:21 pmI find myself unable to settle this morning so here I am again - LJ. There's actually quite a few websites that I want to check out for CSS help (that's one of the reasons I'm feeling distracted) but that doesn't really look very much like work whereas typing always seems to. So, I'm going to ramble again in a slightly meta fashion.
Looking back over my journal entries so far I have been surprised to notice that there's a lot less political stuff in here than I would expect. I am a massive news junkie - I catch it at least once a day and usually browse BBC news online in my lunch-hour. I get really involved in some of the stuff - take this for example. About 2 weeks ago I was listening to a report on Sharon's decision to up the violence in the Middle East in the belief that this would help somehow. The reporter did some vox-pops from the public, asking them if they approved. Now I know they always pick the most extreme of the quotes they get for the final version but still. They spoke to 5 people, not one of whom expressed any doubts at all. One woman said that Sharon was completely justified and that they should kill 10 Palestinians for each Israeli who was killed because "Palestinian lives are worth less than Jewish lives" and one man said "We should just shoot them all". The point is that I was so upset and shocked by this that I very nearly cried on the bus - it was just so horrible that anyone could think like that, and it seemed even more shocking to hear it coming from Israelis - I mean hey, why not just herd them all into gas chambers and then burn the bodies! Although I understand that Sharon’s preferred method is to herd them into camps and then get Christians to shoot them.
Anyway, as you can see, I have quite strong opinions about these things and it just seems odd to me that I've never really written them down here - I've talked a bit about drugs policy but that's about all that I can find. I think it's partially just that I'm not usually at a computer when I think these things - it's usually on the bus on the way home so I don't remember it when I get into work the next morning and it always seems like too long an entry to want to write on my palm at the time.

(no subject)
March 19th, 2002 01:14 pmHah! Sudden brainwave pays off. I have now (I hope) got my journal to display exactly as I want in IE6, N6 and Mozilla. So now what I need is for everyone to have a look and see if it works on their browsers (you need to scroll down to check that there's 5% of white space on all sides of the box all the way down) as I think IE 5 is a bit different again and I haven't got that here.
