After quite a bit of fiddling around, I have managed to get my laptop onto the network :) And renamed to tinyjo :) Now I just have to figure out how to install
logjam. Where does one put the files once they're downloaded? And then what? I need Linux for Dummies really but I've got the internet, which I guess comes to the same thing.
If only I didn't have a horrible suspicion that my network settings were going to disappear on reboot...

Date: September 1st, 2003 07:42 am (UTC)From:Downloading the Debian package is often easiest. You can search for LogJam here, remembering that you're version is 'testing'. After downloading the file (to wherever, it doesn't really matter though you'll find I've put all your Debian packages in /root/debs/) you issue a command to install it:
# dpkg -i logjam_4.1.2-4_i386.deb
That unpacks the documentation and any executables into the appropriate locations. Sometimes a package may depend on something that isn't currently installed. That's when the APT HOWTO comes in handy, which you'll find listed among a bunch of other useful stuff.
HTH!
