Lots of stuff to tell you about, oh beloved LiveJournal...

Thursday: They didn't tell me when they said we'd be flying to Edinburgh that we'd be flying in a tiny plane. This isn't proper technology. It didn't have propellers but that's about all you could say for it. I don't like flying. Takeoff and landing make me feel dizzy cos my ears pop loads of times and any turbulence makes me feel really nauseous - like car sick or something. I always need 1/2 an hour or so of fresh air after a plane flight. Today fortunately the weather was very clear and so we had no turbulence meaning that I recovered remarkably quickly - something of a relief. We took taxis to the hotel - very nice and with free tea making facilities in the rooms! Went to rehearse my bit and suddenly realized that I hadn't tried to speak in public for ages and ages. Ended up using the mike as I only have a tiny voice and after a couple of rehearsals I had got into my stride a bit. The actual thing went OK in the end and then we went for drinks with the graddies. Most of them were quite nice although there seemed to be more foreign nationals that British which seemed a little odd. After that we all went out to dinner at the most fantastic restaurant. It was called the Wytchery and it was gorgeous. Stone walls, beams, wiggly willows in the garden and entirely candle lit - a lovely atmosphere. We asked for the wine list and got a wine book! 136 pages worth of wine! The majority was in the 20-40 pound range but we did find a Poillac for £549 - unfortunately expenses wouldn't quite stretch that far! We had a fabulous meal and then most of the guys stated their intentions of going clubbing. I politely declined and headed back to the hotel.

Friday: The boys were very hung over this morning! They all bought "guests" back last night (including the older chap who had done the main presentation) and had got about 2 hours of sleep! They all looked dreadful and we had great fun teasing them! Unfortunately we had a propeller plane home but no turbulence again so it was pretty OK. Headed straight back to Oxford to start preparing for the party. Cleaned the flat, bought mugs and sat around til Alex came over. Managed to overcome temptation in order to go to Tescos and buy a frankly enormous amount of alcohol (including the constituents of Swinging Penguin specially for Alex) before waiting for guests to turn up. Loads of them did (inc Suz so we could have a really good gossip) and things went very well. We had a great game of Big Idea, I got chocolate biscuits and an enormous tea cup from [livejournal.com profile] cleanskies - hooray! Plus none of the red wine spillages managed to actually stain the carpet (pale cream and new!) so all in all a successful party I think.

Saturday: Managed to haul ourselves out of bed to go to Joes so Alex would have something to eat before leaving for his gig only to discover that most of the others hadn't bothered! Lazy lot. Poor Alex suddenly flagged and started feeling a bit shit - unfortunately after he'd ordered his food - a delayed reaction to tiredness and hang over I think. We managed to finish his burger between us (Rowland, Sonia and her friend were there too) and then Alex left for London and Suz and I set off for some serious shopping. We had a great time. I got a purple silk shirt, a new handbag (with compartments! Yay!) a new coat and some Christmas pressies and Suz did quite well as well, managing to finally find the pair of knee high boots we wanted. We then killed an hour in Borders (I love Borders!) before heading of to see Cyrano de Bergerac at the OFS because one of Suz's friends was in it. It was quite good but mostly carried by the guy playing Cyrano who had been a professional actor before coming to Oxford. The girl playing Roxanne could have been a lot better (especially since she was president of OUDS and in the National Youth Theatre) and the whole thing was a bit long (2.5hrs in total) but I quite enjoyed it. Then home for a cup of tea and to bed.

Sunday: Lovely lie in til about lunchtime broken only by seeing Suz off to Aldates. Then up to face the post party cleanup. Washed up a forest of glasses, put away the spare alcohol, hovered everywhere, did the washing - I was quite the domestic goddess. I actually quite enjoyed it in a way - there was good stuff on the radio and it was all quite peaceful. Alex popped over on his way home from his gig to have something to eat with me. Annoyingly Tescos actually shuts on a Sunday so I couldn't get the requisites for pork stroganoff and had to do basic pasta sauce instead. I'll do it soon though. Had a nice meal and relax and then wandered down the pub for OUSFG but hardly any of them where there. Had a nice chat all the same.

Monday: Bloody public transport! The bus took til 9:10 to drop me at Marble Arch only to discover that someone had broken the Central line! I ended up catching a bus and not getting into work til 10 (by which time I might as well have walked Marble Arch to St Pauls!) Grrr. Plus people have mysterious new things for me to do at work. All will be revealed later this afternoon apparently...

You "hovered everywhere" ;) Cool! cleaning technique! Can you do my house tooo? (actually I think my house would drive any cleaners insane). Smiling about hovering tiny-jo now -- feel much better (sick thing) see you tomorrow if I'm upright.

tea and hugs!

I fear to hover up a tiny dinosaur and break the machine!

Hope you're feeling better. I'll bring your coat and a disposable camera for you if you come tonight....
