I was very touched by all the supportive comments I received on the last entry - thanks everyone. I told Cassie and she purred so I can only assume she's very touched as well.

The bad news is that Cassie has an immune system defect which causes her immune system to begin to attack her. It normally remains dormant until triggered by an allergic reaction to something. The good news is that with the use of steroids and other immune suppressants it can be returned to dormancy/remission. If it's not something obvious that she's allergic to (e.g. food) then it's difficult to guard against reoccurrence - we just have to keep a very close eye on her. I'm not sure how long the steroids will take to work though.

When I got her back to the vets she was doped up on morphine so that it wouldn't hurt too much where the samples were removed so she was very dopy and wandering round the house wobbling slightly and purring. She's also on soft/wet food for the moment which is a bit of a treat for her. Apparently the ulcers aren't sore so she's not normally in any pain. We had a lovely evening together last night with her wandering round purring and me giving her occasional hugs. The diagnosis is only based on the preliminary results - we should get it confirmed or not on Friday - but the vet seemed fairly confident that that's what it was.

Good!

Good stuff! Glad to hear of a fairly positive update.

On a different note, are the others back tonight or tomorrow? Will any of them be down the pub, d'you think? I am likely to go back to East Oxford tonight & not do CBS -- unless you need your sleeping bag back urgently? -- but wanted to check if I would miss them...

They are back - I've just been to lunch with Alex :)

Alex is definatly going to be there this evening but I don't know about the others. Jeremy looked worn out and Damian had put his back out so I'd be surprised to see them. Don't know about the others. Alex and I'll be there. I'm not in a hurry for the sleeping bag - I only use it about twice a year so just bung it back when you have a chance. (Actually, thinking about it, let me know if you bring it to the pub to return as then I can remember to bring my bike basket to stow it in).

I forgot to mention when I emailed, Benedict was asking after you. I told him your life was wonderful and that you were so glad you'd moved to Oxford. :)

*hugs* to Cassie.

I'm oddly touched by that - do they miss me? Actually, how are things going in POSTS these days?

Cassie sends purrs back :)

Congratulations to you and to Cassie! :-)

(Sorry I didn't make it to the pub last night to congratulate you in person - I was distracted by a nasty incident with a Frenchman.)

Cheers,
Neal
