I have this horrible expectation that one day they will figure out how to reverse time and make all those unstable quantum particles stick around - and then they'll discover that they've broken the equilibrium of the universe and caused an anti-matter big bang.

Everything will go into reverse. The poor will be rich (just as well, otherwise the compensation payments would be astronomical), Silverlink trains will turn up on time (albeit travelling backwards), Dido will be good, and etc.
