I find Burchill really strange to deal with. I disagree, often violently, with a great deal of what she has to say (depending on what she's talking about -- I find her much sounder on feminist issues than on international politics or her crazy attacks on the acting profession), yet always the first thing I read in the Guardian Weekend magazine (after looking at Simon Hoggart in the main paper) is her column.
(I remember listening to Start The Week With A Bunch Of Pseudo-Intellectuals once, and there was this ghastly harridan spouting nonsense on it. "Wouldn't it be funny if that was Julie Burchill?" I said to my flatmate. And that's just who it was.)
