I think that time is a big factor. When I was looking for a syn admin to replace me, way back when, you were one of the people who I considered but dismissed as I didn't think you had enough time for it. Obviously, I'm not an admin now, so I don't speak as one, but that was my personal opinion, 12 or so months ago.

Also, I definitely wouldn't recommend abuse for you. It takes up a huge ammount of time, and is even harder to do at work (unless your work doesn't mind you looking at pictures of tubgirl or bestiality, for instance, which is unlikely).

I'm in something of a similar rut to you at the moment, I think. There just isn't really anywhere for a long-term, experienced, non-admin supporthelp to go. I'll echo leora's sentiments about possibly trying to limit yourself to a few categories. She mentioned styles and clients as being understaffed, and I'll also mention web and syn. Some of the stuff you do in syn is fantastic, I know -- I still keep a closer eye on syn than other categories: old habits die hard. I suspect that you'd enjoy learning clients. A lot of requests sit around for a fair while, so there's no real danger of bunnies, and there's a fairly wide range of different requests in there to sink your teeth into, from th basic to the freaky. It's a "never the same request twice" sort of category, which keeps it interesting.

The other thing you might want to try is to pick a project and throw yourself at it. Just find something that you think somebody should be doing but that nobody is, and do it. This might be related to documentation, to training, to whatever. Admins, generally, will love all over people who Get Stuff Done, and with the experience you have, you should be able to work well independantly.
