I've just started running, but I tend to view it as an addition to the gym rather than an alternative; partly because I can't run for as long as my gym sessions last, and because of the weather thing, but more because running may be good cardiovascular exercise, but if I stopped going to the gym I'd miss out on my weight training, and a lot of things I've read seem to suggest that muscle-building and toning is at least as important to losing weight and maintaining weight loss as calorie-burning exercise...
