Wouldn't you just know it! Last night Alex and I were fiddling round looking at the old computer and popped the battery out because we were looking for the hard drive. We popped it back in and I jokingly suggested that we try starting it up. And it started up! I think it sensed the presence of a new computer in the house! I'm kind of mostly pleased. It means that I can get at all my data again (hooray!) but it also means that I didn't need to buy a new computer. But then again, it also means that I can sell this one on second hand for considerably more than I was going to. But still, it's kind of annoying. It didn't do it when I popped the battery before, or when the guy in the shop (who assured me that either the power supply was shagged or, more likely, the motherboard) did it. Only now.
Still, I have got a shiny new laptop. And with the help of my bro (he's great - he's like tech support but free) I managed to get the TV output working too. And I have to say, it looks pretty good - what surprised me was that even on the screen the DVD playback is good.
