March 8th, 2002 09:23 amWell, the gods of public transport were smiling on me this morning, that's all I can say. Even though I left the house a bit later than normal because I was sorting out the last few bits of stuff I need for the weekend (I'm going to see Mum and Dad) I still managed to catch my normal express bus. No-one tried to sit next to me (possibly because I had the rucksack on the other seat) and by some miracle we actually pulled into Marble Arch at 7:58 which must be a record. We caught up the bus before us and everything :) Which meant that I could get on the Central line when it was much quieter which meant that I didn't have a problem with my rucksack and even got a seat from Holborn! I'm always surprised that if you get the Central Line at 8-8:15 it's not bad at all but if you get it at 9-9:30 it's insane even though the first one gets you to work slightly early (if you work in the city) and the second gets you in late. It's not quite as bad as 8:30-9 but still. If I lived in London I'd definetly be tempted to get up 1/2 an hour earlier to get on the quieter one :) In fact I seem to default to a work day of about 8:30 - 5 by choice which seems slightly odd to me as I'm not one for mornings. I guess it's my paranoia about being late - I'd much rather have that 1/2 hour leeway in case something goes wrong than get a bit of extra sleep but be really worrying about whether I was going to get there on time (which I would).
