Cold

Brrrrrr. Its bloody cold. I don't like the cold. Cold is bad. At least there's no snow. Even the office is cold - for some reason the heating doesn't seem to be working properly. More tea I think.

Went to see Blade Runner last night. Very very cool. I had never managed to see it the whole way through before and I loved it although I did have to shut my eyes in a couple of places - luckily Alex was there to provide hugs. I thought the end in particular was wonderful. The trouble is that, a bit like the Lord of the Rings books, some of the screening (for instance the way it's always raining) looked a bit tired to me because its now been copied so many times. Still, fab and it was great to get the chance to see it on the big screen - we love the upp!

Listened to a tribute to Douglas Adams last night - very sweet. I realized that he's probably one of the few authors where I can't really think of anyone, before or since, who writes like him. All the other greats have their imitators (hell, even Pratchett has his imitators) but his style was so completely individual as to defy all others.

Bugger bugger bugger. It turns out that in my discussions with my manager about what time it was OK for me to take off over Christmas was viewed by him as merely speculative and so none of my Xmas holiday is actually booked yet. Plus when I tried to actually book it it turns out that I only have 3 days holiday and not 4 left. Bugger. The confusion arose because I took a day in Jan which I have forgotten (it's on my timesheet so I must have taken it but god knows what I did with it!) and so I thought I had 4 days left. When I booked my last lot of holiday Benedict misread the spreadsheet (I think he added my carryon day twice by mistake) and also told me I had 4 left hence the confusion. So now I have to work on 31 Dec. Boo. On the plus side I doubt anyone else will be doing any work and I can probably head off early as well so I guess I'll manage. The one downside of a potential Canada roadtrip is that it'll suck up all my holiday for next year which will be a bit of a bugger as I quite want to go away with my parents as well. Life is so complicated.

Maybe by then my laptop will have arrived (hollow laughter) and I can work from home...or maybe it'll snow so much that I won't be able to get to London...well I can dream can't I?
