Walking back from Boots in a daze at lunchtime (soon to discover that I'd forgotten to do the thing I'd actually left the office for, i.e. pay a cheque into the bank) I was nearly back when a young woman, perhaps a couple of years older than me, called over to me from the door of the language school next door asking if I could help her. What the hell, I thought, and stopped to hear what she wanted. She explained that she was a teacher and that it was the last day of her class and would I take some photographs of them. What the hell, I thought and wandered in to take photos with several cameras of a mixed group of about 10 Asian and European students with their English teacher. They all thanked me profusely and I got a chocolate from a box of Roses as well. A pleasantly random way to end a quick trip out at lunchtime.

I always rather enjoy encountering people in passing like that, stopping to give someone directions, to take a photo of them with their family on holiday, just playing a tiny part in helping to make someone else’s day that bit better gives me a little glow of satisfaction. And perhaps it shows because I do seem to get approached relatively often for these things. Perhaps because I'm tiny but tend to give people a smile I look unthreatening. Which of course I am. I'm glad it shows.
