First Day

Well, here I am! New job and everything. It feels very strange - partly because the office is half empty at the moment. I guess not many of these guys are early risers :) As I guessed might happen, my computer hasn't made it here yet so I'm using the office laptop (very nice). Unfortunately, this also means that I can't really do much as I need to install .Net and start learning that which I can't really do on this machine. In the mean time, I'm going to think about my intranet page. We all have to have a worklog and whereabouts but of course the obvious choice (for me) is to try that in ASP.NET which I can't do until I get the new PC. Still, I can plan.

Didn't manage to write much last week because my laptop broke - serious overheating problems. I got it back on Friday afternoon but noticed that the fan is still not working so I'm trying not to use it for more than 20 mins at a time until I can take it back in and get it fixed. I think I'm going to try to make an effort to write here every day (even weekends) from now on though, and to use the home machine to do it - I'm too dependant on net access from work at the moment and even though I've got that here I think I'm going to have plenty to do. Sometimes I'll write when I need a break I expect but I'm going to try to keep the longer stuff for home. Or at least I will when I've got my PC and can actually do some work :)

I was just wondering how you were getting on! You didn't actually say if you liked it so far or not?

It's quite nice but for various reasons about 1/2 the office (including the guy in charge of my project) aren't here so it's a bit difficult to get a feel for. I guess I'll have a better idea by the end of the week. There's an office punting/picnic tomorrow so that'll be a good chance to get a feel for the vibe :)

Office picnic with punting? Sounds like an improvement on this place already!
