Reply page lives!

Woo hoo! Reply page lives! And that was record time for me to figure out an S2 view :)

Are userdefinable reply pages going to allow us to override the form target and steal each other's passwords? :)

[identity profile] tinyjo.livejournal.com 2003-05-16 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Seems unlikely :) Currently, the whole form is just an object called Reply Form (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/advanced/layerbrowse.bml?id=core1#class.ReplyForm) which just has print method you can call in the page where you want the form to go. Of course, if I was careful I could write my own form which looked exactly the same (except that you can't detect who the logged in user *is* so you wouldn't be able to do that bit). Unless <form> is stripped by the HTML cleaner.

Woohoo, yes - you're right... It's pretty neat!

I did a little dabbling into S2 after your last post about the styles, but found that the *wizard* version didn't allow me to customise it enough, and the *complicated* version was too much for my brain to handle.

Maybe I'll wait for more documentation, or at least try it again when I have more time (and brain power)...

Yeah - it's basically a programming language, which you have to pick up from scratch. Luckily for me, I'm used to object oriented languages so I didn't have quite so much work to do. Oddly, I actually had a harder time picking up S1 when I first started to use it than I have with S2. I am also more of a programmer now than I was then though.

I think the intention is that the wizard will replace the things you used to be able to do with overrides - changing the colour, font, link text etc and the complex stuff replaces and adds to what you can do with styles. The old system will still be around for a while though.

I'll probably upgrade my *bvtoday* community to a paid account and fiddle with S2 in there till I get the hang of it, rather than mess around with my existing journal style.

(the one annoying thing I've found with livejournal is that it doesn't seem to good at previewing your journal in your style without replacing the *live* journal...)

You can do this now, although you couldn't at first. To preview a page in your S2 style, visit URLofPage?s2id=StyleID of your S2 style (NB this is not the ID of your s2 layer!). Unfortunatly, you just have to know that - I don't think there's an automatic link to it or anything.

Surely if you go to your "your styles" page under customize/advanced/ you can follow the links there to view your journal in any style you've created?

[identity profile] tinyjo.livejournal.com 2003-05-19 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah-ha! I haven't looked there for a while as I'm mostly tinkering with my layer atm.

Trolling around through first my memories and then my friends page and then your journal page to find this posting thread it's occurred to me that with this (or your?) S2 style something that has been lost is the *add to memories* button - which is a little frustrating as it means delving deep into the archives to try and find something you want to refer to... Can we have a *memories* link back please?

Incidentally, I came into your journal today through the link on my *irrelevant links* page, and I noticed in your referrers script that there have been 10 referals from there in the last 48 hours. This is curious ... I wonder who's been visiting my site and then visiting yours...?

[identity profile] tinyjo.livejournal.com 2003-05-20 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the entry links are going to be added soon, I think.

Re visitors - bizarre. I haven't added you to my links page yet - I'm hesitant about it because I'm actually trying to cut down the stuff there because it's what I use rather than bookmarks. I think I will, but now I can't do it (or upload anything else) until I finish the stylesheet changes I'm doing.

For the moment, I've hardcoded the memories etc links for your pleasure :)

Awe! You are kind... (I've just used it to...)

Thanks for coming to the pub last night by the way - it was good to see you and Alex again... :)
