Heh :) Just realised that my last post is saying "Scary Linux install" and then I haven't updated. Fear not, the computer is still working and the Linux install went well. So far, it scores big points by being the first linux install I've done where the internet worked first time and for being very easy to install things on. It's dual booting with Windows because that machine is also our primary games machine but I'm hopefully going to get a bit of use out of it. It would be better if I could install it on my laptop but when I tried to run the LiveCD on here the graphics crashed (which was the problem I had when I tried to install Debian on here). Next time I get a laptop, I'll definitely try to check compatibility beforehand.

Graphics driver keeps crashing on this thing too, so I'm told. I think it's Nvidia, and I think we're running Gentoo... Well done on the install!

Nividia is the main manufacturer that there *are* Linux drivers for. Doesn't really help with the crashing though...

I think it's probably as much to do with [livejournal.com profile] knirirr compiling weird kernelly things every night, and getting all the experimental stuff installed that's still buggy ;-)

That's kinda wierd. Maybe it's just too new? Have you tried the breezy badger live CD? It works fine on my crappy Dell laptop (though it runs out of memory and crashes applications if you try to do too much). On the other hand, maybe it works fine on that becuase the graphics card is rubbish?
Glad it all installed nice and easy.
