Blimey! Tom is quite astoundingly annoyed by the bloody stupid idea which is the Guardians best British weblogs competition. In some ways I understand why - the objections to the idea that he raises are valid. But in other ways I'm not sure why he cares so *much* - after all, he could (and, I believe, will) not take part. Perhaps it's just the fury of the artist who hates to see others prostitute their work. Perhaps its the sight of a business (even one as benign as the Guardian) muscling in on what's essentially a personal phenomenon - when you post to your blog it's for you and your readers and only a little bit for them really. It's not because you hope someone at the Guardian will think it's clever.

Perhaps I'm just more resigned than him to the tendancy for people to go for things like this.
