I really want to try out phone posting, but I just can't bring myself to pay the call charges. Perhaps I should sign up to one of those cheapy international calling deals :) Still, Brad says that they might get UK phone numbers so I'm going to hang on for the moment. I think that if they don't I'll eventually make one phone post, just because I really like the idea of people who read this journal being able to hear what I sound like and getting a bit more of a picture of me that way - I'm really enjoying listening to you lot talk.

call charges

How much does calling the US from the UK cost?

In Germany, prices start at around 2.8 or 2.9 cents a minute (around 2.0 pence a minute) if you choose the right carrier (by dialling a prefix), so the maximum-length five-minute call wouldn't cost more than about 15 cents, or 10 pence. I don't consider that very expensive.

Are British telephone charges so much higher?

(Or perhaps the British long-distance/international telephone market isn't as deregulated/competitive/whatever-the-word-is as the German one?)

You can get cheap deals (say 2p per minute) but I don't think you can access them without signing up and up til now I've had no need to call internationally so I haven't bothered. I might get round to it now, but I'm lazy, so I might not. The standard international rate on my phone is about 20p per minute, which, to be honest isn't shocking given the whole thing will only take a couple of minutes, it just seems like a lot for a phone call :)

You could remotely host an audio file and link to it.
Do tricks with my new software, BT's voice-to-mail service and RSS to do it from a phone.
