The absolute minimum every software developer absolutely, positivly must know about unicode and character sets (no excuses!). Possibly also of interest to web-ui people.

Every software developer? For some developers I know, the user interface is nothing but a big red button (http://www.moeller.co.uk/emergency_stop.htm).
