Emptied of expectation. Relax. ([personal profile] tinyjo) wrote2003-06-25 11:10 am

Just recently, I've been feeling really strong desire to have coffee again. The trouble is that there is nice coffee in our office and every time I go into the kitchen I can smell it. Mmmmm. On the other hand, of course, giving it up has been such a benefit to my health that I'm loath to give in to my urges. I wonder if I'd be safe to have a cup a day in summer...

How has it benefitted your health?

The winter before last, when I was drinking 5 or 6 cups of tea a day I got a cold about every 3 weeks. I'd get rid of one, have maybe a week off and then get another one. Last winter I got a horrible cold at the start of September and read an article in New Scientist about how caffiene was an immune supressant so I decided to give it up. I have had one cold since then.

Interesting. Maybe I need to switch permanently to decaf tea. Most of the rest of tea is good for me!

I balance the coffee with fresh orange juice

But then my immune system is pretty solid. I also probably only take 2-3 cups a day, all the rest of the time I'm on waffy herbals.

I'd guess one cup a day is probably safe from a health point of view -- the question is, would having one cup a day lead to more cups a day? :-)

Coffee

I've been having one cup a day for nearly four years. On the rare occasion I end up having two, I generally feel a bit weird and regret it. I think I'm in no danger of excessive coffee-ness.

Summertime coffee...

Maybe I shouldn't mention the various 'frappucino' concotions that dominate hereabouts - and you are no doubt well aquainted with...

Speaking of my own caffeine intake - it's a bit fitful, and sadly veering to the coffee quadrant, when I often verymuch prefer tea. I just don't keep all the accoutrement handy and in fresh supply - mea culpa.
