Where was I going?

Honestly - my absentmindedness wins out over my good intentions every time. I'm trying to eat more healthily again, so I'm having breakfast (small bowl of cornflakes) and am trying to remember to bring in a packed lunch of wholemeal bread sarnies with me as this is both healthier and cheaper than most of the alternatives. Unfortunately, any slight disruption in my morning routine leads me to forget to make the bloody things and then I have to go out and buy sandwiches. I'm trying, honest I am.

I've been having lots of fun with S2 over the weekend, and have now managed to customise the read comments page as well. I'm not totally happy with the way the threading is displayed, but overall, I'm pretty chuffed. I think (hope) they're working on the reply page next, cos I want more to play with!

So how long before the rest of us plebs get a version that we can use...?

Anyone who wants can experiment with S2 if they want, but the advanced stuff needs either quite a lot of time, or familiarilty with object oriented programming to work with - there's not really an intermediate level yet. There's no public feature yet so you can't look at my source, but looking at the source for the system styles helps give you a feel for what's going on.

You can create your own layers and styles by going to http://www.livejournal.com/customize/advanced/ - once they're done, you can use them on your journal by switching to S2 at http://www.livejournal.com/customize/ and selecting your new style from the list. Things are still in the process of being implemented, which is why it hasn't been announced in news yet - you may want to watch [livejournal.com profile] lj_dev for news of S2 developments.

Cornflakes are full of sugar which may contribute to spaceyness; a glass of water, first thing, even a small one, is very very good indeed for the brain and for digestion as well. Poor sleepy body needs to rehydrate after a night's sleep!

Good luck with the body-even-more-beautiful campaign. Inspiring!

Is it "right" that if I (or anyone) replies to a topic of yours via MY Friend's page, they are dropped into YOUR style?

[identity profile] tinyjo.livejournal.com 2003-05-06 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I think that's fine - its MY post, after all. I don't think you're stuck with it though. If I understand correctly, the intention is that when S2 is fully implemented, you will be able to specify whether you would prefer to see your own style, or the style of the person who's journal you're replying in when you view/make comments but that's not been implemented yet. Similarly, you may later be able to choose whether you see your own comments link text or the text your friends have defined on your friends page. I don't think that'll be completed for a while though.

Currently, it's ick. It's a horrible disjunction to be suddenly forced into someone else's style to read the comments - particularly one I find hard to read. You may like it very much, but I would rather stick with what I have without having to wait for further implementation, or perhaps even then having to force it so.

I just spotted that when I was in Semagic and added you back :) Also, you're welcome and thanks very much! Feel free to bug me with questions about embedding if you have any :)
