Emptied of expectation. Relax. ([personal profile] tinyjo) wrote2002-10-05 07:30 pm

I'm very worried

Last night I noticed that Cassie had a lump inside her ear which had blood on it. I'd noticed the day before that she seemed to have one of her eyes shut and wondered if she'd been in a fight. I decided to take her to the vets today to check it out. On examination the vet wasn't concerned about the ear or eye but did notice some ulcers round the mouth which I hadn't spotted. He opened up her mouth to find big ulcers inside near the back. Now that doesn't sound like much - it certainly didn't look like much to me - but the vet is very worried, as he repeatedly said. Aparently the two most likely causes are an immune system problem where her antibodies start attacking here or cancer. He kept on saying "I'm very worried". So now I have to take her back on Monday for a biopsy (which she's *not* going to be happy about) and then we'll see what the prognosis is. I want to cry. I love Cassie very much and she's a happy little cat living in Union St (going by the purring). She seems fine but the vets voice keeps coming back to me - "I'm very worried". If it's treatable she's insured so it should be OK. But I'm worried.

Hiya, I hope all will turn out well

As she is the mother of OUSFG in real life, so Jo is the mother of OUSFG on livejournal. :-)

We should make Mike get one. He could post exciting tales from Russia. Maybe.

Yeah, but how are we now to appease the Mum without the standard offerings of tea - most worrying! :)

Yes, we SHOULD get Mike on board ... this is too useful a resource for him not to be in on it.

I've suggested it a couple of times but he has thus far resisted. If you know of anyone else who wants to join I have an effectivly infinite supply of codes so point them to me.

Is it worth setting up an OUSFG community?

Aww sweetie! I was meaning to ring to thank for the sleeping bag, but turns out I should have rung for a bit of soothing words maybe. Livejournal, eh, finding out about things that you're actually in the same town as, but electronically rather than in real life... I hope everything goes well at the vets -- big hugs for you and for Cassie.

Poor Cassie! All the best for both of you.

Sorry I didn't see this before...

But I do hope everything's OK.

Keep us up to date?

I'm really sorry to hear about Cassie, Jo. By strange and horrible coincidence, my cat (well, my mum's cat ... well, no, my cat, really, although i haven't lived at home for four years) had mouth cancer; she died on January 2nd this year. It was going on for a couple of months; it was unremittingly, indescribably horrible. I dearly hope that Cassie's not in for the same fate.

On the other hand, my aunt has an autoimmune problem - her overenthusiastic immune system has managed to kill off various mucosal secretory cells, so she no longer has tears or saliva. It hasn't stopped her, though - she converted 30,000 Thais to Christianity a while ago.

Anyway, best of luck.

Yikes! Fortunatly it seems to be something like the latter and unlikely to be the former although we can't be sure til the lab results come back on Friday. I can't see her achieving quite so much though! Converting a few dog people perhaps...
