Listening to the constant media coverage of the anniversary yesterday, I wonder what it's for. It all seemed rather unnecessary, an event that they're making a big fuss about so that in years to come they can put it on their CVs. It's not like we've forgotten any of it or they've got anything new to say - after all, they never shut up about it do they.

It sounds heartless, but honestly, I'm fed up of hearing about it and how it changed the world. To me the tragedy seems to be that it didn't change the world. A year later we're still worrying about American unilateralism and their dangerous Middle East policies. Americans now know that there are people out there who hate the USA but they still aren't interested in why or what they could do to change that. And over here, we're still frustrated by the fact that Tony Blair seems happy to just do what he's told instead of standing up to Bush - I suppose a relationship where they say "jump" and we say "how high" is special in a way. Where will we be a year from now I wonder?

Still alive & healthy will suit me...

Interesting how Bush, tonight, has been at the UN talking about all the Security Council resolutions Iraq has ignored. The US regularly ignores international law. All anyone's saying is what a strong performance it was. So, he's a very effective hypocrite?

Yeah - it always ticks me off that when they go on about ignoring resolutions it never comes up that Israel has got outstanding ones going back to 1967 which it continues to flout with US support. The USA always seems to take the position that the laws should apply to everyone else but not to them, like the trade stuff - it's OK for them to be protectionist but not, say, Ghana. I think the fact that they won't even sign up to the international criminal court says it all really.

Sorry, I have a tendancy to go of on one about the US govt!
