New project

I've decided that I need to have a new web project now that I've got my pages looking like I want with CSS and stuff (although when S2 finally makes it that'll need more fiddling - I haven't decided how to do the comments threading yet). So what I've decided to do is write some code which takes the listings pages of daily info as input and outputs something which is reasonable size for the palm so that I can have them as channels on Avantgo without them taking a million years to load and having forms you can't use on the page and stuff. It should be a chance to learn a new language as well - php maybe, or even perl script. So can anyone recommend me references for those? Or another language I should try doing it in?

You might want to ask on Pure too, you know what a bunch of geeks half of them are...

PHP is good for reformating web stuff, because you can give it a URL as the path for a filehandle open. Then access the page as if it was a normal file.

Please feel free to borrow code from my atempts. I stll need to get some way of working around the 32k limit tho.

Oh, and somebody *shoot* that webdesigner.

Yeah - it was LJ to go which gave me the idea. I'll have to add some stuff to strip parts of the content as well. I actually offered to do one for them that they could then advertise as an avantgo channel but they said they'd do it in house and then never did :(

Is the 32k limit the Avantgo page limit?

Yep. Any downloaded file larger than 32k will be skipped.

Did Paul Grist get back to you yet after you mailed him at the weekend? I need to get that ad done.

Nope - not yet. I'll forward it on when I get it (if I'd been thinking I would have CC'd you the mail - duh).
