Busy Weekend
Well, all in all, a pretty good weekend. Left work on Friday to catch the train home to my parents for my brothers 21st and Mothers Day. Mum overjoyed to see us as usual and we went on a great shopping trip on Saturday - I got a couple of very nice new tops and some stuff for my house (yes, I am irretrevably domestic) and some new shoes (I'm becoming like Imelda Marcos :) ) Then in the afternoon we went and had a look at some cars which were very nice but I think I'd probably be better off looking for something nearly new rather than brand new. Then it was home again for a bit of lying around and chatting before going out for Thai as Steves birthday treat which was really nice although we didn't start eating til late (they couldn't fit us in) so I was flagging a bit by the end. Also, interspersed through the day was lots of admiring of the digital camera. Dad wanted to try and take a photo through his telescope to see how difficult it was but, as is traditional on these occasions, all the birds which usually infest our garden were nowhere to be seen! Still, I think I've re-awakened his desire for one - naughty :) Also reminded of the fact that it is very frustrating trying to argue about current affairs with Steve as he favours argument by assertion. And he's pro-Israeli.
Sunday started off well with a basically lazy morning and then I thought "I'll try to catch the 2pm train - that'll give Alex and I time for food at the Radcliffe before OUSFG turn up". Little did I know that the gods of public transport were planning to punish me for my easy ride on Friday. We got to the station to discover that due to engineering work, the journey from Norwich to Colchester would be made by bus instead of train. OK, I thought. Not too much delay. So we were bowling toward Colchester when the bus I was on broke down! So we had to wait 1/2 an hour for another bus to turn up and take us the rest of the way. It took 3hrs just to get to Colchester (normally about 1hr on the train). The net result was that the whole journey took 6hrs and I didn't get to Alex's until about 8:30! We popped out and had a bit of dinner in the Radcliffe and then wandered back to OUSFG. Unfortunatly, I was a bit too tired to enjoy that and just headed home.
