I've noticed that the discipline of writing something in a more essay/creative format (as opposed to code) almost every day has markedly improved my spelling. Or at least it has now that I have spell check set on default. I can almost always spell definitely right first time now although I still have to think about it. Seriously though, from picking up 5/7 mistakes per post, sometimes more, on the spell checker I now sometimes don't even have any actual mistakes, just place names and stuff. And it's rarely more than a couple now. For someone who's always been a bit poo at spelling and then let the skill completely atrophy over a 3 year maths degree and then programming jobs that's not too bad.
