See, eventually, all the interesting stuff ends up on the internet too. I've always been fascinated by what I think of as statistical maps (although I'm sure there is another term) ever since I saw a block population map (where each country is represented by a square proportional to their population) in the back of my geography book and then recently I spotted an article in New Scientist about WorldMapper who are producing maps relating surface area on the map to all sorts of different statistics. With a bit of prompting from Alex I managed to locate the URL again via Google and look at the whole thing and it's just really really interesting. I found the Toys Imports vs Toys Exports interesting. There's even an RSS feed on LJ for when new maps get added to the site ([livejournal.com profile] worldmapper_rss)
